Symptoms of brain injury
Symptoms vary from person to person and may not show up straight away. Many are “invisible” to others.
- Headaches
- Tiredness / fatigue
- Dizziness
- Nausea
- Poor balance
- Weakness on one side
- Seizures
- Sleep changes
- Slurred speech
- Memory problems
- Poor concentration
- Slower thinking
- Trouble finding words
- Difficulty planning
- Confusion
- Trouble making decisions
- Feeling “foggy”
- Irritability
- Anxiety
- Low mood / depression
- Mood swings
- Impulsiveness
- Loss of motivation
- Frustration
- Changes in personality
- Blurred or double vision
- Sensitivity to light
- Sensitivity to noise
- Ringing in ears (tinnitus)
- Changes in taste or smell
- Numbness or tingling
⚠️ Get emergency help right away if someone has:
- A headache that gets worse and won’t go away
- Repeated vomiting
- A seizure or convulsions
- Unusual drowsiness or can’t be woken
- One pupil larger than the other
- Slurred speech, weakness, or numbness
- Growing confusion, agitation, or odd behaviour
- Clear fluid or blood from the nose or ears
